Navy Piano Cover

Project Dates: 2/5/2023 - 2/26/2023

This project falls under the “Let’s make it comfortable” banner of activities. It was also born of necessity. Our recent family expansion came as two feline kittens. It’s been over six months and they are over ten months old. The piano plateau was a losing battle, as were the coffee table and the dining table. To protect the wood from their claws, we decided a piano cover would be perfect.

The fabric is a beautiful navy blue that was a leftover bolt from reupholstering my grandmother's living room furniture. They passed this furniture around the family, degrading with lack of care and each transition. We rescued it from urine and claw damage from its previous family caretakers.

I also made the coffee table cover for the same reason and purpose. Elevated flat spots beckon like vacation spots to our feline roommates.

I quilted the top only in one diagonal direction, opting on a design leaning towards modern as opposed to traditional diamonds. One-quarter inch cotton batting protects from their claws. Ripped bamboo sheets that needed a new life form the lining. The bamboo sheets are silky and very kind to furniture.

I finished the piano cover with a whimsical piano keys ribbon edging that Dave found. It took me a month to finish. Daily gentle chastisements and ugly temporary coverings goaded quick completion of the project.
